No. A free LinkTwin account with API access is enough to use the shortcode and automatic link replacement. Custom aliases require a compatible plan — if your plan does not support it, the alias is silently ignored and a standard deep link is created instead.
No. When the plugin is deactivated, the [linktwin] shortcode returns the original URL and automatic link replacement stops. Your post content is never modified — the plugin only intercepts links at render time. Deactivating it is completely safe and reversible.
